Call for Works for Solo Cello

We are pleased to announce that we have closed the call for submissions of works to be performed at the "Kei Yamazawa Solo Cello Recital - Mind Tree" as of May 31.

We received more than 100 submissions from all over the world. Thank you very much.

The results of the selection will be announced on this website in mid-June. ( There will be no individual contact. Please check the site by yourself.)

Yamazawa will be looking through all the pieces and selecting the piece(s) to be performed at the "Kei Yamazawa Solo Cello Recital - Mind Tree Vol. 7” at Tokyo Concerts Lab, Tokyo.




Japanese Cellist Kei Yamazawa is inviting works for unaccompanied cello to be performed at the 7th performance of his annual recital series "Mind Tree" held in October 2021 in Tokyo.

The work may be an old work or a new work, but it is preferable that the piece is suitable for performance as part of a program featuring Bach's Suite for Solo Cello No. 2.

There is no application fee, nor is there a ticket quota. However, please note that we do not pay commission fees, prize money, etc., nor do we provide transportation or accommodation expenses for your recital participation.

<General Information>

Form of the work: The work must be playable by a single cellist only.

Duration: 4-15 minutes

Application period: March 1, 2021 - May 31, 2021 (must arrive by mail)

To ensure anonymity during the judging process, please note the followings:

- Please do not write the composer's name on anything other than the front cover of the work.

- When you submit data, please make sure to keep the cover page and music score page in separate files. Send your score by e-mail to:

The selection will be made by the performer, Kei Yamazawa. We will not respond to any inquiries regarding the selection process or reasons.

The selected piece will be decided in early June 2021 and will be performed at the "Kei Yamazawa Solo Cello Recital “Mind Tree Vol. 7” on October 21, 2021 at Tokyo Concerts Lab. (Tokyo).
